Cruise control is a system of electronic devices that allows you to maintain vehicle speed within the limits specified by the driver. This device allows the driver not only to relax and change position, but also to completely release the accelerator pedal. Installing cruise control is a popular service that gives the driver the opportunity to quickly eliminate the shortcomings of the original configuration of his car.

Regarding this system, it is customary to use the following classification:

  1. passive cruise control. Being an inexpensive and fairly simple device, passive CC can only be used to maintain a constant vehicle speed.
  2. adaptive cruise control is a more modern version of the passive variation. This system can maintain a variable vehicle speed and is able to maintain a specified interval to the vehicle in front. Adaptive CC is used only on cars equipped with ESP and ABS, since it works in conjunction with them.

Installing cruise control is a difficult operation, the implementation of which is recommended to be entrusted to qualified specialists. Carrying out this procedure on your own can cause problems in other vehicle systems, including the aforementioned ESP and ABS.

To order any auto services for diagnostics, repair and/or installation of additional devices, the driver can always use our online platform.

Installing cruise control is accompanied by a number of nuances that the car owner should be aware of:

  • firstly, CC systems cannot be installed on all engines. If the driver decides to carry out all the work himself, then before purchasing a set of devices he should consult with a specialist about the possibility of installing cruise control;
  • secondly, only passive CC will require minimal effort, not requiring any additional devices besides the main ones. An adaptive system will definitely require the proper functioning of ABS and ESP, since without them its operation is not possible;
  • thirdly, installing cruise control does not imply flashing the ECU: only the set of devices itself is installed.

In terms of activities carried out, the service may vary depending on the specifics of a particular situation. Installing cruise control on cars with automatic transmission is performed as follows:

  1. The brake sensor is changed. To do this, disconnect the wiring connector, turn the old sensor and carefully remove it, and while holding the pedal assembly in a raised state, install a new sensor. The latter is included in the set of KK devices, so you don’t have to buy it separately;
  2. Cruise control buttons are installed on the steering wheel, with which the driver will control the operation of the system. During the work, the airbag is dismantled, the rear steering wheel screw is unscrewed, the plug is removed, the buttons themselves are mounted and connected;
  3. Test events are being carried out. After assembling all the disassembled elements, the performer starts the car and turns on the cruise control systems. If all vehicle instrument readings are within normal limits, then the work, as a rule, can be considered successfully completed.

Installing cruise control on cars with a manual transmission follows a similar principle, but may vary slightly in detail.

The advantages of the system are obvious:

  • the driver gets tired much less, since he is freed from the need to keep his right leg in a constant position and constantly monitor the speed of the car;
  • maintaining a constant speed has a beneficial effect on the fuel consumption of the vehicle;
  • the safety of the driver, passengers and other road users increases.

If not properly maintained for a long period of time, however, the cruise control system can cause various road difficulties associated with the vehicle braking for no reason and similar problems.

Installing cruise control will not be advisable when operating a car exclusively in urban conditions, because the driver usually does not need to maintain a constant speed for a long time in such circumstances.

Cruise control will be an excellent solution for all those car owners who often or at least periodically go on trips in their vehicle. The actual advantages in this case significantly exceed the potential disadvantages.

Installation of cruise control and assistance from specialists

In order for the system to function properly for a long time, the installation process should be entrusted to qualified specialists. The latter will quickly and efficiently carry out all the necessary measures, fully taking into account the various nuances of a specific situation.

Installation of cruise control is a service that can always be ordered on our website. Together with us, the driver will quickly find a suitable car service in his city..

The essence of your question

  • Hello! help me find a specialist to install cruise control on a Hyundai iX35 2010. in Krasnoyarsk tried to establish the result itself 0

Greetings, friends.

Today I want to tell you about a device that is useful for a modern car. We are talking about “cruise control” (hereinafter referred to as “cruise”). This device is used to assist the driver during long trips, or when driving through populated areas with speed limits, because allows you to avoid constant tension in your leg, holding the accelerator pedal in the same position for a long time, or to move without violating traffic rules.

In most cases, “cruises” contain two modes:

  • Speed limit mode
  • Speed mode

Speed limit mode is a mode in which a fixed vehicle speed is set, exceeding which is limited electronically, and further pressing of the accelerator pedal is ignored. Disabling this mode occurs either by disabling the function or by pressing the “kick-down” button.

Speed maintenance mode is a mode in which the set speed value is reached, and the electronics automatically maintain this value. This mode is turned off either by turning off the function or by pressing the brake pedal.

Let's look at installing such a device using an example Peugeot 308 Premium with automatic transmission.

Initially, cars of this configuration do not have “cruise”. At the moment, there are many different universal systems on the electronics market. But such options require a competent installation specialist, because... Not all systems support standard connection of speed control devices. Therefore, we need a system that is installed standardly, but in more expensive car trim levels.

To install the cruise control system, we will need:

  • Tool for dismantling plastic interior elements
  • Hexagon “asterisk” CR-VT20
  • Cruise control knob

As I already indicated above, depending on the functionality, there are two types of “cruise” systems. For the Peugeot 308, this functionality is tied to the control knob:

  • Control knob with speed control 6242.Z9
  • Control knob with set speed support + speed limit 6242.Z8

On the donor car we install the first type of “cruise” - control knob 6242 Z9(it was just the one that was available).

Functionality of the cruise control control knob:

  • The wheel is responsible for activating the speed control function
  • The end button is responsible for turning on/pausing the speed maintenance mode
  • The petals on the back of the lever are responsible for setting/changing the supported speed value

First of all, you need to remove the upper steering column cover. To do this, use an asterisk hexagon to unscrew the 2 screws from the bottom of the steering column casing.

There is a plug on the left side of the casing that needs to be removed.

Then, remove the plug in the steering column itself, where the control knob will be installed directly.

As you can see, the lever contains a socket for a printed circuit board, which is located under the steering column plug.

We install the control knob into the grooves of the steering column until it clicks.

Reinstall the upper steering column cover and tighten the screws.

After this, you must contact an official dealer or certified service center for Cruise control activation (not installation)!!! At the same time, regardless of the installed handle, two modes can be activated at once! After this, you can replace the control knobs - both functions will work.

To check the functionality of the “cruise control”, we activate the speed maintenance function by turning the wheel on the control handle to the ON position. The following picture will appear on the instrument panel screen:

We accelerate to the required speed, and press one of the control stick petals (upper or lower) to fix/select the speed mode. Speed maintenance mode is enabled.

Next, by pressing the key on the back of the cruise handle, you can increase/decrease the maintained speed, without touching the pedal accelerator!
If you need to quickly increase speed (for example, overtaking), then you need to push the accelerator pedal to the floor. There is a button under the pedal that temporarily disables the cruise control modes. When you release the pedal, the set speed will resume.

To temporarily disable the speed control function, you can press the brake pedal or the end button of the lever. The picture on the central screen will look like this:

IMPORTANT! Speed mode activated only at driving speeds above 40 km/h!
If you try to turn on cruise at a speed of less than 40 km/h, you will see this message on the central display of the on-board computer:

As a result of installing the cruise control knob, you should be left with two of these parts, and nothing more - the casing plug and the steering column plug.

UPDATE *** If you have installed a handle with a speed limiter, then switching between cruise modes is also done by turning the wheel on the control lever; the rear petals of the handle are responsible for the value of the limited speed. To temporarily disable the restriction (overtaking)? you need to press the accelerator pedal to the floor.

** All functions and rules for using the function of maintaining a given speed or the speed limiting function are written in User instructions supplied with the vehicle. **

*** If you have the Lexia program, then you can activate cruise control yourself, without contacting a service center. Perform this procedure at your own risk! ***

In many trim levels, the Estima Hybrid is equipped with cruise control. This is a device that allows you to drive at a constant speed without the need to use the gas pedal. In Estima, cruise is controlled by a lever located to the right of the steering wheel and allows you to accelerate, decelerate and move at a consistently constant speed without touching the pedals. The thing is indispensable on long trips, and, fortunately, for the hybrid Estima the problem of its absence is solved very simply.

So, how to install cruise control (cruise-control, speed control or autocruise) for our hybrid.
First, everything we need from tools.

  1. crosshead screwdriver
  2. Head 19
  3. Torx screwdriver T25 (marked SATA 21105)
  4. Thin awl or nail scissors

In addition to the tools, we will need the cruise control lever itself, 3 self-tapping screws to secure it, and a plastic steering wheel trim with a hole for the lever. All this can be ordered from any company that sells original spare parts, or found at a disassembly site. Both the lever itself and the plastic are the same on many Toyotas, so you shouldn’t look for Estima at a car disassembly, but you can try your luck with parts from another car (it’s especially recommended to try the MARK II 110th body). True, you will have to get around the issue of matching the color of the plastic.

So, our way is to order everything new. The catalog numbers we need and approximate cost:

The steering column plastic has 2 different colors. You can determine which one you need specifically as follows: if you have the line TRIM QB14 on your engine compartment plate (or the color approximately matches what is in the photos below), then order 45184-28120-B1. Otherwise, order 45184-28120-B0. In addition, you don’t have to order self-tapping screws, but personally it seems to me that it’s easier to spend 50 rubles than to go to the market and select the size by eye.

So, now that our order has finally arrived, let's take a closer look at installing the cruise control on the steering wheel.

First, let's remove the airbag. Using a knife, carefully separate the plugs on the sides of the steering wheel and use a star screwdriver to unscrew the two screws holding the SRS airbag. There is no need to try to get them out (this is probably not possible). You can try with a regular screwdriver, but they are screwed on very tightly.

After that, we disconnect the white connector with the single (for now) blue wire and unscrew the steering wheel with a 19mm socket. The nut itself should move easily, but after that it still seems like the steering wheel is holding something, it’s so tightly seated. Rock it with force in different directions and it will come off easily. Before this, it would be nice to mark with some light marker how it fits on the pulley, because there is a huge chance that the steering wheel will be placed crooked during assembly.

I’ll add that we won’t need the connector itself anymore, so you can mutilate it as you wish. I always use nail scissors to press out the clips in the last step. They have very thin metal and a sharp tip. After removing the wire, simply insert it into the connector located on the cruise control lever (no need to lift or press anything). Be careful not to mix up the side of the connector, otherwise you will have to repeat the process. As a result, this should look like this:

After bending the antennae, remove the pillow screws from the old plastic and insert them into the new one. Then we put the cruise control knob in place and fasten it with TWO screws as in the picture.

Connect the battery and enjoy the result:

How to use cruise (cruise control) on Estim:
After starting the engine, press the ON/OFF button on the control stick and turn on cruise. The green light on the panel will light up.
Start driving as usual, the cruise does not show itself yet. Having reached the desired speed, lower the handle down (SET) and you can release the gas pedal. Any application of the brake or gas will pause cruise action and to return to the last set speed, move the stick up (RES). Cancels speed settings and stops cruise control by moving the knob toward you (CANCEL).

With active cruise, it is possible to control the speed of movement. Without touching the gas pedal, pull the handle up (+). The speed will increase until you release the handle. Down (-) - the speed will decrease.

That's it, questions and comments are welcome.

Afterword:
The original plastic and the plastic with a hole for the cruise do not differ in ANYTHING except the hole. The original one even has markings for it, so those who want to save 500 rubles and have decently growing hands can cut out the hole themselves without any problems. Those who want to receive my original plastic can write in the comments.

Cruise control is a device for a car that maintains speed and helps reduce speed on slopes and increase speed on climbs. For car enthusiasts, such a system is convenient not only because it makes it possible to relax and change position, but also to release the accelerator pedal altogether. Nowadays, the cruise control buttons in cars are placed on the bullet wheel, so operating it is not much of a hassle. There is, however, a small flaw - this gadget is not designed for driving around the city, but is most likely intended for traveling outside the city. This block indicates how to install cruise control, we will consider all the functions (using the example of passenger cars), and we will describe why you should buy it.

This device is designed to stabilize a car at high speeds, which helps maintain the same speed indicators without using the accelerator. Cruise control should be called autopilot on the ground. The speed is maintained during launch and decreases during descent. When you press one or another pedal, the device turns off immediately.Using cruise control will not cause much trouble. After turning on, the indicator on the gadget lights up. Having accelerated the car, give a command using the appropriate switch, it will remember the speed, and then release the accelerator. Cruise control operates within the range of 45-135 km/h. Remember, it is better not to use this device in a metropolis. Installing cruise control will not hurt those motorists who often travel outside the city. The important components of the device are the auxiliary drive for the throttle valve, valves that control the vacuum servo, piping and vacuum system, vacuum servo, controller, controls for various system functions. In the motor manifold, a vacuum arises, which is used in the servo drive. The control monitors the valves of the servo drive and changes the vacuum behind its membrane, despite the speed differences of the car. The servo diaphragm interacts with the throttle valve. The speed indicator will be maintained by cruise control at a certain level during climbs or slopes, changing the level of fuel supplied to the engine. To prevent the system from turning on spontaneously at low speeds, a controller was developed. If you press the brake pedal, the system turns off because the controller's power connection is disconnected and the valve that communicates with the atmosphere becomes open.

The buttons that control the device are located in the center of the steering wheel and are usually accompanied by the inscription CRUISE.To safely use cruise control, there are the following modes that you need to know: OFF - turn off cruise control, ON - turn on cruise control, after which you need to set the vehicle's traction, its speed and turn on the device using SET, this button sets the system data for further work. Having indicated the speed of movement, hold SET, then stop pressing the accelerator - the car will continue to move, controlled by the device; the controller will regulate the speed, you will know this by the CRUISE ENGAGED indicator.Cruise control should never be turned on on icy roads! There is a possibility of car skidding. Other problems with the system may be: problems with the controller and vacuum servo drive with electrical circuits, or the throttle valve. To prevent this from happening, check the pipeline, servo drive linkage and the tightness of the servo drive vacuum chamber.

Today, almost every family has a car, and some even have several of them. Of course, having a car makes your life much easier. Especially where there is no public transport.

For most modern people, it has ceased to be a luxury. This is a convenient means of transportation that almost everyone can afford.

But it is also worth noting that the automotive industry does not stand still, constantly coming up with something new for the convenience of both the driver and passengers. One of such significant innovations of recent times can certainly be called cruise control. What is it and is it possible to install it yourself? This is what we will talk about in this article.

The content of the article:

What is cruise control in a car?

Cruise control - what is it? A system that may be required on long trips. It is especially in demand in countries where there are long straight roads.

It is a mechanism that allows you to maintain a constant speed along the way. When it decreases, the device increases the gas, and when it increases, on the contrary, it slows down the car.

In other words, while driving, this type of device is able to control the speed. That is, in this case, the driver will only need to turn the steering wheel, and all other actions will be performed by cruise control.

The principle of operation of the device is as follows: it determines the speed of rotation of the wheels and sends the received information to the electronic unit; from the unit, the processed data is received by the actuator, which adjusts the throttle valve.

The cruise control system control buttons are located on the steering wheel. That is, from here you can turn it on/off, fix the speed of movement, and, if necessary, reduce or increase the speed.

What is adaptive cruise control? Throughout its history, cruise control has been improved many times. Today, outdated systems have been replaced by adaptive cruise control (ACC or Adaptive Cruise Control), which is significantly superior in functionality to its predecessors.

Adaptive cruise control starts to work when the speed is above 30 km/h and up to 180 km/h. Although modern systems are capable of operating from 0 to 200 km/h.

The ACC system can operate in constant speed mode, decrease it, or vice versa increase it. What does this depend on? From the situation on the road.

In simple terms, if the vehicle in front slows down or another car starts changing lanes from the adjacent lane, the system will automatically reduce the speed and maintain the distance based on the settings specified by the driver.

And vice versa, if the car in front increases its speed, the ACC system will increase the speed to the limit set by the driver.

When the road is clear, that is, when there are no other vehicles present, Adaptive Cruise Control maintains one constant speed set by the driver.

What is active cruise control? Adaptive cruise control can work in any weather, but in winter you will have to take care of heating its sensor. The system control option depends on the car model (a button on the multifunction steering wheel or a lever on it).

In cases where there is a need for emergency braking, active control will give the driver a visual (red icon on the display or dashboard) and audible signal. After which he needs to take control of the brake system.

Cruise control installation diagram

Installing cruise control on a car is not that difficult, but before you begin practical implementation, you need to carefully study the theoretical material.

Many modern cars already have a remote control for setting the cruise control button, but there is no button itself. You can make it yourself.

There were no buttons on the steering wheel, but I wanted to place it here.

1) . First, I disconnected the battery, removed the airbag, and removed the cover with the buttons.

2) . This is what the plug looks like.

3) . In my case, the connectors and wiring for the cruise were already installed.

4) . I purchased a three-position switch in advance.

5) . I cut off the edges on all sides with a knife.

6) . I soldered wires (at right angles) to the switch.

7) . The plug had to be cut.

8) . I separated the lid and cut off all the sides (except for the central ones) on both sides. The remaining ones were shortened to 3 mm.

9) . I made a hole in the remaining structure for the switch.

10) . I put the switch in place and filled it with epoxy glue. I installed the lid in the middle. Gave everything an aesthetic look.

We connect the button wires to the connectors that are in the car for normal activation of cruise control.

If this is not the case, you will have to be wiser yourself.

Steering wheel control diagram.

I installed the same buttons as they were.

I took a board with buttons, removed the resistors, and soldered in the necessary ones. Pinned it.

11) . The steering wheel had a 4-wire cable, but needed a 6-wire cable. I found one and soldered it to the contacts.

12) . On the other side of the cable, I soldered wires with connectors for connecting buttons.

13) . Here's the end result for me to succeed.

14) . Here it is turned off.

15) . On.

How does cruise control work?

Conclusion

Modern means of increasing comfort are offered by car manufacturers, including to eliminate such unpleasant complications. Even a novice driver without much experience would do well to learn how to use cruise control while driving.

This is not particularly difficult and does not require much labor. But it will only bring benefits.
